LA Current Monitoring

Lightning Arrester is the device used to protect the insulation and conductors from damaging effects of lightning on electrical power systems and telecommunication. When a lightning surge travels along the power line to the Arrester, electricity from the surge diverted through the Arrester to the earth.

If protection fails or is absent, lightning that strikes the electrical system introduces thousands of kilo Volts that may damage the transmission lines, and can also cause severe damage to transformers and other electrical or electronic devices. Hence it is important to measure Third harmonic resistive current which indicate health of surge arrester.

MLCM

The MLCM is a light weight, cost effective, portable and handy device, designed to monitor healthiness of lightening arresters (LA). It measures the fundamental and third harmonic leakage current down to a micro ampere. MLCM makes it easy for maintenance crew to check and monitor in-service lightning arresters in a periodic manner and ascertain their health. When LA's deteriorate, the third harmonic leakage current also increases which provides a clear indication for maintenance crew to take immediate action. As per IEC60099-5 B1 method, third harmonic @ 20 degree is resistive and directly co-relates to health of LA. The MLCM is also provided with android app to enable user to get the reports on smartphones without the need of kit or laptop to see and analyse data.
