IoW is a water monitoring system that includes a water meter with an AMR unit and a concentrator which is a base station to collect data from different water meters configured with it. The AMR unit consists of the LoRa module that can communicate with the concentrator. The concentrator collects the data and sends it to the cloud based Motware application using a GSM network.
The AMR unit measures the flow in the m3 unit. The concentrator sends the measured data to the cloud based Motware application at user defined time intervals. The concentrator is a base station that connects the water meter (end node) devices to the cloud platform. The technology used in the concentrator is LoRa RF technology supported by Semtech. The working band corresponds to the ISM band of the region; the operation is in a license exempted region. The main operation of the LoRa concentrator is to store and forward the data to the cloud via GPRS(GSM).
From the MOTWARE cloud platform, one can easily monitor water flow rate and analyze trends like water consumption. It provides a comprehensive solution to harness the flexibility and scalability of the cloud which in turn automates the customized report generation and sharing.
Application
Water monitoring is essential nowadays due to the acute shortage of usable water. The monitoring of the amount of water used at a particular interval of time helps to identify the usage trend. One can easily plan the water usage as per the requirement and store it wisely for future use. Abnormality in consumption due to leakage, theft, or improper water distribution systems can be identified, and proactive decisions can be made depending on the water consumption data. Efficient instruments/assets can be deployed depending on minimum/maximum usage trends at different areas of operation with the usage analysis.
